Looking at this image I guess it is a reflection of me thinking a lot about going on vacation to sunny Spain. I will do that in real life somewhere in the very near future. Jippie!
This image started as a doodle this morning. Just using a ballpoint. Than I added marker and Pitt pens (FaberCastel). I scanned the image into the computer and cleaned the image from smudges and other artefacts. After that I made a digital background.
I like to combine these different techniques. They all have their own beauty (and disadvantages). The Pitt pens have their natuaral irregularities when filling a form with their color. The computer has just the opposite possibility, creating evenly colored surfaces.
I just finished a masterclass with Marenthe. Two days filled with information and inspiration, contact with fellow makers and Marenthe as our radiating teacher. But also filled with confusion that seems to belong to a happening like this. At least for me.
So today is for letting it all sink in through doodling, relaxing, making art and taking a nap.
In 1999 I wrote a small story that accompagnied a couple of sketches like the second one you see here. Over the years I have rewritten and redrawn this story time and time again. Two years ago I was sure it was finished and ready for publication.
However I am working on it again. In the 2019 version the second image is replaced with the first one.
It is time to wrap this baby up, Eyck!
